It took us about 1 year to declutter our life in order to live in a bus whilst we travel Australia on our mission to Transform Children’s Health, One Lunchbox At A Time. Now after 10 months on the road, both Israel and I have realised we really don’t need anything. This makes it difficult when it comes to birthdays and events like Father’s Day.
With Father’s Day being only one weekend away, it’s time to put our thinking caps on. I remembered one of the best Father’s Day Gifts we gave Israel was in 2012 when together with the kids we hand made him this gift of photo cubes. I look back at this gift now 4 years on, and realise just how special it was. Mmmm, what to do for 2016 whilst we’re living on a bus, and he is around 24 x 7? I still haven’t worked that one out yet, but thought you may be interested in these 5 Simple DIY Father’s Day Gifts I found when searching for ideas.
5 Simple DIY Father’s Day Gift
1. Father’s Day Breakfast in bed
OK, I know, it’s not really original but who doesn’t enjoy a brekkie in bed?
2. Father’s Day Picnic
There’s 3 important elements to think of here. The first is the location. Think about a place which brings your partner or dad a lot of joy. For instance, for Israel, it’s the beach. The sound of the waves and the salt water always grounds him. The second is the company. Is this a picnic to share with everyone or is your gift for him to have some time alone? The third thing is the food. What’s his favourite foods and drink? Or perhaps you want to make a tapas / bento style with lots of variety. 3. I Love My Daddy Questionnaire
This is such a sweet and simple idea. Design a simple questionnaire with questions about Dad, then get your kids to answer them. You could present these in a little book format or in a frame, such as this beautiful framed one found on Daffodil Design – imagine this on Dad’s desk. You could even video your kids saying their responses then turn it into an iMovie.
4. A Book All About Dad
I just found this site Eighteen25 which has free templates for pages of a book you can get the kids to make – all about Dad. It looks really cute.
5. Hand Print Gifts
Capture where your kids are at now by creating art or cards using hand prints of your kids. Here’s a couple of cute ideas – I love you this much hand card from A Day In My Life, and this idea I found on Etsy.
