We are huge fans of the movie That Sugar Film. Have you seen it? If not, we’d highly recommend it. We believe it’s such a great movie for all ages, and really gets the message across about how mad our food supply has become, and how firmly entrenched sugar is in our daily food intake. We believe in the message so much that we applied to become Ambassadors for That Sugar Film – and were successful! It was announced just last week.
Way before we became Ambassadors, we watched the movie with both our kids (then 8 and 4). Since then, we’ve bought both the books – That Sugar Film Book and That Sugar Guide. I devoured both of these books but what I really love is that they are so bright and colourful, they captured the attention of both our kids! Our daughter is old enough to read them and understand them, but our son is 5 so he can read some words but gets a lot out of the pictures. Here’s what our daughter had to say about That Sugar Guide:
Book Review – That Sugar Guide by Indrani, 10 yo.
One Day…
Mum went to the shops and came back with a book that just happened to be called That Sugar Guide. Luckily, I got to read it and, do a book review. Hope you like it! 🙂
That Sugar Guide is a book about how to get rid of sugar from your diet, step by step. It’s a follow-on to Damon’s excellent book That Sugar Book. Here is the link to my book review about that.
Throughout the That Sugar Guide book, there is bright colours, hilarious images and cool illustrations and great photographs ( I suggest looking at pages 17 and 29 ).
Adding to this, Damon’s writing – and Zoe’s (Damon’s wife) too – is really witty, which makes the facts really easy to digest, while still getting the information through to you.
It’s great that the book is separated into 2 different parts, The Bridging Week and The Consolidation Phase. The Bridging Week is the initial steps to gradually remove sugar, and The Consolidation Phase is about eating real foods free from sugar. And to help out even more, they both come with recipes at the end of each segment. I really suggest you try the Cacao Hot Choccy or Dandelion Latte, pg 47 – It’s sooooooo good!
I love how the book is intertwined with both Zoe and Damon’s words, this gives it so much more fibre, with a healthy balance of male and female perspective. (See what I did there? ;)) But seriously, it makes it quite funny. For instance, on page 120, Zoe explains how to ‘Anticipate hunger like a Ninja’ and says ‘That’s why it’s good to plan and anticipate mealtimes and hunger before it strikes. Like a Ninja would his nemesis.’
Hilarious! For me, anyway.
If you’re a book eater, lover or devourer, or looking for a easy way to live a reduced sugar diet, this book is for you. With bright colours, great information and an all-together sense of awesomeness, That Sugar Guide is a definite, 100 % Must Buy!
