Easter is traditionally a time for indulgence, chocolate and coming together with family and friends. I always remember waking up to a stash of Easter eggs at the end of my bed. To me, a self confessed chocoholic, it was heaven. Today, however it seems that our kids receive an over abundance from friends at school, family and of course the Easter Bunny.
So now it’s 4 days to Easter and I’m hoping that unlike me you haven’t left everything to the last minute. I’m sure everyone’s kids are hopping around like mad with excitement that the Easter is nearly here and of course so are school holidays for most Australian states. We, as parents on the other hand are probably thinking ‘OMG, how can we stop them making themselves sick on the copious amount of chocolate that they received? ‘. Never fear, I’m here to help you with some healthier Easter options.
Easter Food and Treats
- Hot Cross Buns – who doesn’t love them right? Check out these processed sugar free recipes for inspiration from Michelle Bridges and The Healthy Chef. For those sensitive to yeast you could try the Hot Cross Buffin from Well Nourished.
- Looking for some healthy homemade Easter Eggs, try these from I Quit Sugar or some sugar free chocolate from The Merry Makers.
- Looking for something that isn’t chocolate related. These Carrot Bliss Balls can be made into a little egg shape and to encourage your kids to try them, tell them they are the Easter Bunny’s favourite treat.
- For a little fun, why not try making some Homemade Marshmallow Chicks from The Nourishing Gourmet. What kid doesn’t love marshmallows?
- For something the kids can help with, you can make some Dark Chocolate Dipped Rice Crispy Eggs.

If your after some inspiration for Good Friday, you may like to try one of these:
- Healthy Fish Cakes from Well Nourished. These look delish!

- Oven Baked Crispy Fish from Taste
Easter Craft
- These cute little paper ‘bunny’ bags have so many uses. A great way for kids to wrap home-made gifts or if at a Easter egg hunt with numerous children, they can wrap their ‘stash’ in the bag to take home with them.
- Kidspot has lots of Easter craft ideas. A few the kids might like are Easter Finger Puppets or make a Bunny Mask.
- Kids love puzzles and mazes so why not head over to DLTK to print out some to keep the kids occupied.
- Tinyme also have free printable cards/tags for Easter gifts. Not a craft for kids to do but perhaps to add to a present they have already made or bought.
- I saw these Yarn Easter Eggs on Pinterest and thought it was something the kids might like to do as it involves getting their hands messy. It’s a bit like paper mache except with yarn. You can find the tutorial here.
- If you like to decorate eggs, head on over to DIY Ready. They have 32 different ideas for you to try such as dying eggs using shaving cream, covering with napkins, glitter or melted crayon.
The options are endless to create a healthy Easter for your family and I could spend forever searching for you. However, I’m sure some of these ideas will put you on the path to a safe, happy and healthy Easter. Enjoy!
Much Love & Wellness, Dorothy xo
