Sleep is your repair and recovery mechanism
Sleep is vital to every one of your body's functions. When your body first enters sleep, it slows down and starts to heal and repair. Later in the sleep cycle, your body speeds up, and this is thought to be connected to your learning and memory. Our body cycles back and forth between these states. For our best health, we need to cycle through these 4-5 times.
Disconnect from phones, tablets, computers 1 hour before bed.
Read a book in bed before sleep.
Spend 5-10 minutes journalling or listen to soothing music before bed.
Moving your body for all over health
Everyone knows that we need to move our body to help us stay strong physically but one of the most important benefits of moving your body is in fact to your mental health.
Walk whilst on phone calls.
Do 5 minutes of stretching morning and night.
Strengthen your body by doing a plank - start with 20 seconds and build up over time.
Mind your thoughts
Our thoughts proceeds our feelings, but most of the time, our thoughts are hidden deep in our subconscious mind. You can improve our day to day wellbeing by checking in on your feelings, and asking yourself, what was I thinking before I had those feelings. A simple example of this could be when you're making dinner and you're already thinking that dinner is going to be a battle. You're thinking this because of past experience at the dinner table. How could you change this thought?
Say one nice thing to yourself each morning.
Before going to bed write down 3 things you are grateful for today.
Practice the feeling behind the doing - put on some music or your favourite podcast whilst doing a task you don't normally enjoy.
Empower Your Kids
In our desire to be great parents, we often think that love means doing it all for our kids. In reality, doing it all makes often leads us stressed, tired, frustrated and resentful. Empowering your kids to help out is an important gift for them and you. It gives them confidence, builds their self esteem and gives them a healthy respect for what it takes to run a household. For you, it takes some of the workload off you.
Think of one household chore you can teach your children to do.
Get your children involved in packing their lunch.
Teach your children to cook their favourite meal
