I have been sick this week, and I actually gave myself permission to take a whole day off and lie in bed. That's a rare thing for me.
I am getting better at showing myself and my kids that when you're ill it's ok to rest. That has not been a strong suit of mine. In the past pushed on. However, I have realised that what I have been role modelling to my kids is that you just soldier on, yet soldiering on is not the best recovery strategy. It just takes longer to get well.
I'm coming out the other side of the illness now and I just want to share a conversation Israel had with me.
For the past 3 weeks Israel has been picking up the lion share of cooking, cleaning and washing around the house. My work has been busy plus I have been away in Sydney a couple of times for personal things (Harry Styles with Indrani and my niece's hens party). The other night Israel had just finished cooking a meal of Crumbed Chicken and Fried Rice. He served it up on the table and then had to go outside to stand on the grass to ground himself. Later that night as we sat together on the couch he said to me, "I don't know how you do it all the time. It's a lot to carry in your head."
You know what.
It is a lot. The mental load is often heavier than the physical load. The physical and the mental load together can some days just seem too overwhelming.
So, how are you going carrying a lot?
If you're interested, I have a training I created for my Kids Health Quest members that helps lighten the physical and mental load. Would this be something of interest to you? Email me and let me know - how are you going and would you like some training to help you cope better?
This past week, the weather has been really humid where we live. Salads are one of my go to meals on sticky humid days. Here's one of our favourites - Mediterranean Pasta Salad. What I love about a great salad recipe is that it can be made different simply by changing a few ingredients here and there. Change the protein up on this and you can make totally different salads.
