I took these two photos on my walk this morning. It reminded me of some coaching I gave one of our Kids Health Quest (KHQ) Village last night. Last night one of our mums who has had some changes in her home life, asked for help because her 3 young children want her to spend all of her time with them on the weekend. She was seeking coaching because she can no longer prep during the week and this request from her children meant she couldn't prep on the weekend either.
We spoke about this concept of Both AND. That it's totally possible to look at this problem from a different angle and come up with a solution that allows her to do prep AND be with her kids.
In coaching I spoke to her about how prep can be a fun activity to do with her kids. She wants to make lunchbox snacks. Here's how it becomes an activity that allows her to be with her kids AND for her to prep too. Both AND.
- let each child choose a snack they would like to make.
- then vote on which one they'll make this week.
- Allocate different parts of the task to each child - eg. one helps get the ingredients out of the pantry, another sets up the workstation, another chooses some music to play whilst you're cooking together.
- Everyone is involved in the cooking.
- Of course, everyone gets to taste the goodness you've just created before you put them in the freezer for next weeks lunch.
If you'd like some One on One coaching from me, you can reserve a space with me. (note: I am totally booked for July). Reserve a One on One Coaching Session with me here.
Making snacks does not need to take a long time. Here's 3 real simple snacks you can make quickly and I should say cheaply at home.

Enjoy making these with your kids (or on your own too of course).
