On Thursday, I hosted my first Coaching Q&A call for my Kids Health Quest (KHQ) village. It's great to be back.
I just want to share some of how these awesome mum's are feeling right now. Maybe you can relate.
- How do you keep motivated to keep moving forward towards a healthier lifestyle and nutrition journey? I was doing well, then the stress at work set me back and I have been feeling flat for months and haven't been doing much towards making changes.
- Getting everyone on board – this is still a very very slow burn – with helping around the house, with meals, with making good choices, understanding the why.
- We will all have to do a reset after being away with family/friends. We have another fortnight of holidays & another week away around Australia Day so will be straight back to school with not much chance to do any prep.
- How do you make it easier to make 15 lunch boxes a week. I’m stressing a little bit over here. Only 1 week left of school holidays here.
Life is hard, and we've been through a lot these past 3 years.
We need to sit back and reflect on what we have lived through and congratulate ourselves.
We're still alive. Our kids are still alive.
What this tells me is that we can do hard things
But here is the thing - we're ALWAYS going to be juggling many balls. We wear many hats in our lives, each asking something different of us.
However, it is totally possible to do hard things with ease. When we accept we have hard things to do, we can choose to approach them with an energy of ease, peace and calm, rather than the energy of dread, frustration or anger.
It takes effort NOW, to see results LATER. That's why you have to show up consistently and persistently.
Think about this - you can't just go to the gym today and be toned and muscle bound tomorrow. It takes effort and results come later. The results lag behind all the little things you do before it. For some reason, people are more open to this in their work. There might be a project they are working on. It has a deadline of X date to implement. To meet X deadline, there's a host of little activities that need to get done first.
The same applies to feeding your family. If you want your kids to eat a wider variety, you need to consistently and persistently to put out a wider variety for them to choose from. You also need to be prepared to eat the wider variety yourself. Only then will you get the result of your kids eating a wider variety.
You have to show up first (and do the things) before motivation and inspiration strike.
If you're waiting for the inspiration and motivation to strike, there will always be something else that gets in your way. If you want to see a change, you have to put in the work (do the things) and then you will experience the results. When you experience the results, then you become motivated to keep going. You make way for more inspiration and more results.
The catch is you have to show up and do the things, even when you don't feel like it.
So going back to the eating a wider variety scenario. It's so much easier to offer a wider variety and feel on top of things when we take time to plan and prepare. Yet often we let our circumstances give us reasons to not show up and do the planning and prep. Then of course offering a wider variety seems hard.
So first we have to show up by planning and preparing, then we can do the hard thing of offering a wider variety with ease. Then because it was peaceful and calm, we become more motivated and inspired to keep going.
