Let's Talk Recipes
Feeding our family can be frustrating for sure and many people want recipes that work. Recipes that their kids will like. Recipes that will make meal times easy. Recipes that will save money. Recipes that will save them time.
If you fall into the category of wanting more recipes, I want you to be radically honest with yourself and answer these questions:
- How many recipe books do you already own?
- How often do you refer to those recipe books?
- Have those recipes saved the day? Made it easier to feed your family?
- How many times have you clicked on a recipe link, thought I like that and either printed it off or left it open in a tab on your browser, and never made it?
Being radically honest myself, I have a book shelf full of recipe books. I rarely refer to them. The ones I have used tend to be foods I learnt to cook over the years. I do enjoy trying out new recipes from time to time but just for pleasure, not because I am trying to solve a problem with feeding the family. Right now, I have over 50 recipes open in my browser on the phone. All recipes that piqued my interest but I am still yet to make.
So now I'm going to play devils advocate. You may not like what I am going to say but well it's my job to have hard conversations.
You can save time, money and stress when it comes to feeding your family by keeping food simple. 🌟
Here's a little exercise to help you.
- Grab out a piece of paper
- Draw 3 columns.
- In the first column, write down a meal your family eats.
- In column 2, think about another way you can use this meal to create a different meal.
- Do this again in column 3.
I recently presented at 3 different workshops for Senior for Coastline Credit Union. They asked me to present on Eating Better, Feeling Better, On A Budget. I included these slides with ideas on how you can make one meal and use it multiple ways even in the same week. Click on the image and print it off for ideas. All of these ideas can either be meat or plant based.
Do the exercise. Let me know how you go. Send me your list too if you're open to it as it may just help others.
