One of the things I really love about Mother Nature is all the incredible edible sources of nourishment she provides us to stay well, and to help us when we aren’t feeling the best.
Fruits, vegetables, herbs, essential oils, spices and more can be used to create remedies at home. I also love the fact that you can make most natural remedies at home from your basic pantry, and or fridge. The other thing to love about natural remedies is that you can make them any day or night, and get your loved one on the road to recovery. All without having to make a doctors appointment and sit in a waiting with your sick loved one. Now that’s a real bonus!
I have been able to successfully manage all of our children’s illnesses so far at home without the need for antibiotics (touch wood). I intend to develop and share a whole series of natural remedies we’ve tried and tested in our household, but it will take me a some time to write them all up. In the meantime, here is one I used yesterday to stop a runny nose.
Israel (my hubby) had a runny nose (like as in a tap) for a few days. He finally asked me to see if there was anything I could do to help. After a little research in my natural remedy books and websites, I found this one. He tried it yesterday and it worked. Today is a new day and the tap is off! So now it’s proven, I thought I would share this Runny Nose Natural Remedy.
Remedy
You will need just 2 ingredients:
– fresh ginger
– ground salt (preferrably sea salt, not table salt)
- Cut off about an inch piece of fresh
- Grind some salt onto the chopping board
- Use the heel of the palm of your hand to squash the ginger til it starts to release its juices
- Pick up the salt & put it on top of your squashed piece of ginger
- Put the salted ginger into your mouth, chew it then swallow
- Chase it down with a glass of water
Israel only had to do this once and after a few hours his runny nose started to slow, and then eventually stopped. I would imagine if you wanted faster action, you could probably do this remedy twice in a day.
Ginger is a strong tasting vegetable /herb and some people don’t like it. And to be honest, a considerable amount of natural remedies are not pleasant tasting, but I like to think about natural remedies like this. They are concocted at home so you know exactly what’s in them, they use natural ingredients and they are usually cheaper to make than any pharmaceutical you are likely to buy. They may not taste as nice but if we are being realistic, for a medicine to taste nice, it’s probably laced with sugar.
